ABSTRACT
Introduction: There are multiple factors that make it difficult to predict the difficult airway and great discrepancy when defining which one or which ones to choose. Objective: To evaluate the effectiveness of predictive tests for difficult intubation in patients who required general orotracheal anesthesia, treated in the operating room of the "Mártires del 9 de Abril" University Hospital in the municipality of Sagua la Grande from October 2015 to February. 2016.
Material and Methods: A prospective quasi-experimental study was conducted in patients who required general orotracheal anesthesia, attended at the "Mártires del 9 de Abril" University Hospital of Sagua la Grande municipality, from October 2015 to February 2016, from a population of 173 patients where an intentional non-probabilistic sampling was carried out according to research criteria, consisting of 90 patients.
Results: Seventeen patients presented difficult intubation for 18.9%, the sensitivity of the tests evaluated was acceptable in the majority, and the specificity was very high in all cases.
Conclusions: The effectiveness of the predictive tests of difficult intubation was demonstrated by its statistically significant association with the result of intubation, showing high specificity and adequate sensitivity in the majority, where high negative and maximum predictive values of positive predictive values for interincisive distance and Cormack-Lehane.
