ABSTRACT
Human trafficking in Cuba is a new subject in the theoretic studies and practical approach at all institutional levels. Thus, in this Cuban context, the crime will be characterized by a historic trajectory from the conquest period to 2016. Objective. Analyze the incidence of the human trafficking in the current Cuban context from a gender perspective. Methodology. A qualitative methodological perspective and a type of analytical-descriptive study were used. The main techniques used were documentary analysis, surveys to consuls or secretaries of consular offices of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs who served as such on more than one occasion abroad, and semi-structured interviews with specialists from institutions that work with the issue of human trafficking in the country and that are related to the reports submitted annually by Cuba to the United Nations. Main results. The victims of crime are mostly young women. Sexual exploitation was the largest manifestation of trafficking detected. Cuba serves as a territory of origin of the transnational trafficking, taking into account what is expressed in the Cuban Reports and in accordance with the criminal procedures developed. There are groups of Cubans linked to foreigners or groups of foreign organizers who engage in the capture and transfer of Cuban victims through deception, withdraw their passports or other identity documents, deprive them of their liberty, and control their movements to pressure them to exercise prostitution or forced labor.
