Bibliometric indicators of the thesis supported by students of Dentistry, Peru

ABSTRACT
Background: the realization and exhibition of the thesis works in the university allows to initiate the student in the field of scientific research.Objective: to describe the main bibliometric indicators of theses supported by undergraduate students.
Methods: a descriptive, retrospective observational study was conducted, with a quantitative approach, which evaluated 186 theses made by students of the Faculty of Dentistry, registered in the Cybertesis web portal of the National University of San Marcos from 2013 to 2017. Methods were used Theoretical: historical-logical, analysis-synthesis and induction-deduction; Empirical: the documentary review of the theses developed. The variables were analyzed: productivity index, productivity by gender, scientific publication, citation index, methodological design, and thematic area and collaboration networks.
Results: it was found that the majority of the theses were supported by women, the average time that a student demanded his thesis was 2 years, and the main methodological design: the observational study; they were executed mainly in the laboratories (extraclinical) of the faculty. Collaborative networks were found around the basic sciences, orthodontics and periodontics, mostly. Regarding the impact factor, 40 theses presented an average of 0.53 ± 1.26.
Conclusions: the main bibliometric indicators of the thesis supported by the undergraduate students were described, it was determined that their thematic should be reoriented towards the priorities of the scientific community related to oral health.
