ABSTRACT

Introduction: brucellosis is a disease caused by the pathogenic bacterium Brucella that attacks several species of mammals among them the human being where it produces a nonspecific fever.
Objective: to apply an educational intervention to increase the level of knowledge concerning human brucellosis in patients and health workers living in the highest risk areas of disease transmission from the clinical-epidemiological characterization of human brucellosis in children of the Guettara Commune Wilaya Djelfa, Algeria, during September 2015 - February 2017.
Method: a descriptive and cross-sectional study was carried out with children of the Guettara Commune Wilaya Djelfa, Algeria. The target group was represented by all the patients who attended the polyclinic with a diagnostic impression of human brucellosis (98), and the sample by 69 patients with positive diagnosis (by clinical, epidemiological evidence of exposure and laboratory results). The variables age, sex, clinical and laboratory findings and combination of drugs were studied. From this, an experimental intervention research was developed where the residents of the areas with the highest risk of infection were included.
Conclusions: the development of the research generated a positive impact on both health personnel and the population at risk of human brucellosis, the educational intervention showed a favorable impact.
