ABSTRACT
Osteosarcoma is the most frequent malignant bone tumor. It represents 15% of childhood cancer and has a high
probability of curative treatment with an early diagnosis. The modalities of treatment after chemotherapy are:
amputation, joint replacement with tumor prosthesis and limb preservation surgery using massive bone allografts. We
present a clinical case with diagnosis of osteosarcoma undergoing salvage surgery of the limb with placement of bone
allograft and retrograde intramedullary nail. He presented excellent osteo-integration and functionality of the limb, as
well as improvement in the quality of life. Therefore, it is concluded that limb salvage procedure, without compromising
the oncological principles, can be considered a good therapeutic alternative. A bibliographic review is presented with
references that support the advantages of this treatment over alternatives such as amputation.
