ABSTRACT
Intestinal malrotation with volvulus is a surgical emergency that if not treated has a fatal outcome. We present the case
of a newborn who, hours after childbirth, presents data on sepsis and clinical signs of complete intestinal obstruction:
biliary drainage through the orogastric tube, peristalsis present and decreased fecal output, it should be mentioned that
he did not have abdominal distension. The diagnostic approach was performed as acute abdomen with clinical and
radiological studies, corroborating intestinal malrotation with volvulus, performing surgical intervention.
In more than 93% of cases, the diagnosis is made by imaging. The clinical characteristics, diagnostic approach by
image study and treatment will be discussed. It is essential to determine if there is volvulus with ischemia, in which case
emergency laparotomy should be performed. It is key to improve the prognosis and reduce complications.
