Congenital malformations: epidemiologic overview 2012-2015 at the pediatric intensive care unit

ABSTRACT
Introduction. Congenital malformations are considered a problem of public health, being one of 10 main causes of infant mortality with an incidence on a global scale of 25-62/1000 born. In Mexico they include 3 % of the hospitable departures of the newborn babies. The goal was to to determine the frequency of congenital malformations in infants admitted in the External Service of Neonatal Intensive Care of the Hospital Civil de Guadalajara Fray Antonio Alcalde during the period between 2012 and 2015Material and Methods. During 3 years 4136 newborns were studied, grouped by devices and systems with the diagnostic of congenital malformations. The results were compared as described in other populations.
Results. Of 4136 patients, 561 presented congenital malformations. The rate of congenital malformations was 13.5 per 100 live births. Be noted an increase significant in the prevalence of the year 2014, followed of a decrease notable for the year 2015 with 4.3% and 2.3% respectively.
Discussion. The rate of mortality during the period studied was of the 33%. The detection early of them factors of risk that involve a role important for the development of them malformations congenital should be considered of vital importance to design programs directed to the control of the same.
