ABSTRACT
quasi-experimental investigation was carried out in patients who came to receive orthodontic treatment at "Victoria de Santa Clara" Teaching Clinic from 2011 to 2014; mesial step, anterior crossbite and occlusal interferences with slidings were observed during clinical and functional examinations. It was aimed at evaluating the modifications produced in some of the functional variables with the use of neuro-occlusal rehabilitation. Sixteen children aged 5 years were studied and divided into two groups: experimental and control, with eight children, respectively. The first ones were treated with indirect flat tracks, psychotherapy, myotherapy, selective carving and control of deletereous habits, while the control group was given only the functional treatment. The most satisfactory results were: elimination of slippage and establishment of an adequate chewing pattern. The use of the appliance and functional therapy in early ages showed a favorable balance in the experimental group.
