Incidence of malignant tumors at 'Comandante Manuel Fajardo Rivero' Clinico-Surgical University Hospital

ABSTRACT
A cross-sectional study of the 2 480 biopsies from the database of "Comandante Manuel Fajardo Rivero" Clinico-Surgical University Hospital was carried out between 1991 and 2016 with the objective of determining the incidence of malignant tumors and their direct causes of death; 395 had a diagnosis of cancer and in 276 clinical records this disease was diagnosed as basic cause of death. A number of 395 malignant tumors were diagnosed in this study, and 276 constituted the basic cause of death (69.8 %).The age range was 17 to 99 years, being 71 the average age; people older than 65 years had an incidence of 70.2 %. Malignant colon and lung tumors were the most common in both sexes. Bronchopneumonia was the predominant direct cause of death. Diagnostic discrepancy was of 23.2 % and in its direct causes of death was 27.5%.
