ABSTRACT
Pediatric neurosurgical outcomes in Villa Clara respond to a multidisciplinary team performance. Post -operative care given in the Intensive and Intermediate Care Units is meritorious. Intermediate Care Unit receives an annual average of 35 patients who have had a neurosurgical procedure. Thirty - eight were admitted in 2016, and up to September, 2017 there were admitted forty seven; most of them (44.11 %) corresponded to post- operative states due to shunt dysfunction and acute hydrocephalus, followed by extirpation of intracranial tumors (11.76 %). The average stay was one to two days (73.52 %); none of the patients initially admitted there required to be transferred to the Intensive Care Unit, and those who came from this service continued having a favourable evolution which allows the transference to a conventional ward; no deaths occurred due to post- operative complications.
