ABSTRACT
Pregnancy in women aged 35 years or older has been defined as a pregnancy in advanced maternal age. That is why the desire of women to get pregnant after age 35, or even after 40, has become in an important social phenomenon. Pregnancy, in these ages, is associated with an increased risk of having common maternal health conditions, a higher frequency of chronic maternal diseases and a higher probability of perinatal and maternal death. Avoiding an unintended pregnancy in these ages is something to be considered by those who are responsible for the family planning and preconception programs in the community. It is necessary to provide a high- quality prenatal care anticipating possible complications in order to achieve better perinatal and maternal outcomes.
