ABSTRACT
Introduction: different surgical procedures aimed at preventing, correcting or eliminating anatomical, developmental and traumatic deformities of the gingiva or alveolar mucosa have now been known as periodontal plastic surgery. Objective: to evaluate treatment results of periodontal recession through free gingival graft and coronally repositioned flap associated with subepithelial connective tissue.
Methods: a prospective, longitudinal, descriptive study of the patients seen in the periodontal consultation from the Faculty of Stomatology of Villa Clara was carried out from January, 2014 to December, 2016. Study population was constituted by 82 patients who had periodontal recession and required a root coating by means of the free gingival graft technique and coronally repositioned flap procedure associated with subepithelial connective tissue. An intentional non- probabilistic sampling was used, and the sample was constituted by 45 patients who meet the criteria established for the study. The studied variables were age, gender, length of recession, surgical technique, inserted gum gain, clinical diseases and esthetic appearance.
Results: percentage of radicular covering was higher with the use of the coronally repositioned flap plus subepithelial connective tissue graft. A greater inserted gum gain was obtained with the use of this technique, which increased over time, as well as, its full integration.
Conclusions: good and excellent categories predominated in the evaluation of the therapeutic result that was why the treatment done was considered effective.
