ABSTRACT
The development of new technologies is changing our lives in many aspects with the emergence of new diseases and the modification of the most frequent causes of others already known. The "erythema ab igne" is a type of hypermelanosis produced by chronic exposure to moderate heat, which typically has been associated with the use of heat pads, bags of hot water or electric blankets; we currently see them related to the use of laptops. The diagnosis is essentially clinical and diagnostic suspicion together with directed anamnesis reveal chronic exposure to thermal radiation. It is necessary to take into account these new etiological agents to avoid diagnostic delays and consequent worsening of the clinical features. The knowledge of this clinical entity is important since it is within the differential diagnosis of the pathology with reticulate skin lesions, present on a regular basis in certain rheumatic diseases. Physicians must know this entity to suspect it and warn patients of the risk posed by continued from a heat source and direct support.
