ABSTRACT
Introduction: the importance of renal damage markers to assess the evolution
and prognosis of patients with kidney diseases is known.
Objective: to identify the presence of markers of renal damage in surgical singlekidney patients and to relate them to the burden of comorbidities.
Methods: cross-sectional study in 88 patients treated at the CMH "Dr. Luis Díaz
Soto". The variables were microalbuminuria, proteinuria and the burden of
comorbidities. The Odd Ratio (OR) and the Chi squared for the qualitative variables
and the standard deviation (SD) and the Student t for the quantitative ones were
determined. Significant p≤ 0.05 was considered significant, with 95 % reliability.
Results: there was an increase in the presence of markers of kidney damage after nephrectomy, microalbuminuria from 17 to 35 patients (p= 0,004 and OR: 2.7),
proteinuria from 12 to 33 (p= 0,005 and OR: 3.8). The higher the load of
comorbidities, the greater the presence of renal damage markers [X2= 19.48; p=
0.000 and OR: 3 (1.19-7.55)].
Conclusions: nephrectomy leads to an increase in the presence of markers of
kidney damage at 2 years of follow-up, mainly in patients with the highest number
of comorbidities.
