ABSTRACT
Introduction: The self-concept or perception that a person has of himself is a concept that is formed in adolescence and has a lot of significance in aspects such as self-esteem and personal satisfaction. Physical education is closely related to selfconcept at this stage in which many young people begin to become aware of their body. These young people practice physical activity for a variety of reasons, including demonstrating their physical abilities, gaining social acceptance and having fun. Objective: The objective of this work is to know the importance of the variables gender, average mark in the subject of physical education, family relations and social relationships in the scale of physical self-concept of secondary school students.
Methods: The research was carried out between September and November 2016, initially applying a questionnaire (Physical Self-Concept Scale) of 25 questions, applied to 85 subjects between 12-15 years (42 men and 43 women), correlated variables of interest with Chi Square and Spearman.
Results: The results show that being male, having a high mark in physical education, living with both parents and feeling important in the group of friends have a positive correlation with self-concept.
Conclusions: Therefore, it is necessary to conclude that forms of evaluation of the subject of physical education that do not necessarily imply great achievements or corporal capacities need to be promoted, but that they value the child's effort above all, and that they foster fellowship and group relations.
