ABSTRACT
Objective: To validate the initial diagnostic tool that measures the nevel of dominion and comprehension of mathematical content for students in premedical courses at the Latin American School of Medicine.Materials and Methods: Descriptive cross-sectional study, methods of bibliographical research were employed, the historic logic allowed for the revision of theoretical-methodological foci utilized for the elaboration of exams that took into account the characteristics and stipulations of the test objectives and a systemic focus to guarantee the interrelations between all thematic objectives of the course. To validate the new diagnostic tools, the criteria of specialists were considered in the application of the Delphi method, guaranteeing quality in the aspect and content of questions asked and the calculation of the alpha Cronbach to evaluate the viability and validity of each theme, permitting the determination of the indexes of facility and discrimination.
Results: Three versions of the test, each with three questions were elaborated and validated. Each with a sub-question type test objective that permit the initial diagnostic at the reproductive level and is interpretive of the dominion and comprehension of mathematical contents of students in the premedical course.
Conclusions: Both versions elaborated with the aforementioned characteristics are valid and viable, the alpha of Cronbach is superior to 0.7 in all cases, although it is necessary to revise in order to elevate the level of difficulty en two of the sub-questions of each version, which does not guarantee an adequate level of discrimination.
