ABSTRACT
Objective: To determine the concentrations of blood lipids in pregnant women with hypertension induced by pregnancy.Materials and methods: An observational, descriptive and cross-sectional study was carried out in 50 pregnant women with hypertension induced by pregnancy and an equal number of non-hypertensive patients attended at the Tamara Bunke Bider maternity hospital in the province of Santiago de Cuba. Period: September 2013-September 2014.
Results: In pregnant women with hypertension induced by pregnancy, the concentrations of cholesterol and triacylglycerides were significantly increased with respect to non-hypertensive pregnant women; On the other hand, the high density lipoprotein levels were higher in the latter and although the low density lipoproteins were very similar in both gravid categories, in both cases they exceeded the reference figures, mainly in the third quarter.
Conclusions: Significant changes were found towards the increase of serum cholesterol and triacylglycerol levels in pregnant women with pregnancy-induced hypertension, mainly in the third trimester, corresponding to the nutritional assessment, arterial hypertension and diabetes mellitus.
