ABSTRACT
Morbidity in the obstetric patient identifies the level of quality of their medical care. With the aim of evaluating the extreme maternal survival, a retrospective study of the maternity graduates in the Intensive Care Unit of the Celia Sánchez Manduley University Hospital was conducted in the period January 2013 - December 2016. The universe was 144 cases. The variables were studied: maternal morbidity, municipalities of origin, age groups, obstetric category, survival, predictive mortality according to APACHEH II score upon admission. The statistical tests of absolute and relative frequency, ratio, morbidity and survival were used. Maternal morbidity was 9.4 %. The highest incidence was in Manzanillo, the average age was 26.3 years (14-43), the non-obstetric causes predominated with 70.1 % and among them the heart diseases with 15.9 %, the most affected maternal category were the pregnant women with respect to the puerperal women and the lethality corresponded to 1.4 %. According to the APACHE II predictive scale at admission, the probability of dying in 33.3 % was from 30 points and the survival status reached 98.6 %. Maternal morbidity and survival were high in patients with an APACHE II score lower than 29 points.
