Knowledge about dental trauma in teachers from Day Care Centers, Primary and Secondary schools

ABSTRACT
Introduction: patients who frequently go to dental services with orofacial traumatic lesions, constitute a very updated Health problem.Objective: to describe the level of knowledge about dental trauma in teachers from Habana del Este.
Method: a descriptive, trasversal study was carried out. The population wasformed by 151 teachers of the Day Care Centers, Primary and Secondary schools from “Camilo Cienfuegos”, La Habana del Este municipality, from September, 2016 to June, 2017. To determine the level of knowledge about dental trauma, the obtained information was collected in forms which were elaborated for that reason.
Results: the teachers present little information about dental trauma 68,2 %, the place that prevailed as the one where they looked for help was the dentist, 64.9%, the ideal time for looking for assistance was in 30 minutes 58.3%, the avulsioned tooth should be placed in a liquid 37%, they do not know the most frequent place to transport the avulsioned tooth 30.5%.
Conclusions: more than half of the teachers had not received information about First Aids. The first place where they would look for help was the dentist. The ideal time for looking for assistance was in 30 minutes. It prevailed that the avulsioned tooth should be placed in liquid. They do not know where they should transport the avulsioned tooth.
