Knowledge about risk factors of sub prosthesis stomatitis in rehabilitated patients with mucosoported prosthesis

ABSTRACT
Introduction: of sub prosthesis stomatitis is part of the oral Health problems in the rehabilitated population with prosthesis.Objective: to determine the level of knowledge about risk factors of sub prosthesis stomatitis in rehabilitated patients with mucosoported prosthesis.
Methods: an observational, descriptive and transversal study was performed to determine the level of knowledge about sub prosthesis stomatitis in patients older than 15 years old, with mucosoported prosthesis of more than one year of use from two Doctors’ Offices at “Luis Li Trigent” policlinic, in Güines, Mayabeque province, from June, 2015 to January, 2016. A survey was applied to evaluate knowledge about this topic.
Results: the 65,35 % did not know the concept about sub prosthesis stomatitis and he 64,57 % have an inadequate level about hygiene. Besides, the 72,44 % do not wear the prostheses in the correct way and the 66,14 % did not know post-installation instructions. The 71,65 % did not give any importance to periodic visits to the dentists.
Conclusion: the level of information that prevailed was not adequate about sub prosthesis stomatitis, determined by a marked lack of knowledge of the risk factors of sub prosthesis stomatitis analyzed in the surveyed patients.
