ABSTRACT
Autism spectrum disorders are considered mental health problems and classified as generalized developmental disorders. They can be detected at very early ages and their malfunction has a considerable impact, not only on the correct development and well-being of the affected people, but also, on their relatives due to the high burden of personalized cares they need. We described the evolution of a 14-year- old adolescent linked to the special education due to language disorders, few interpersonal relationships, tendency to collect objects, manual skills and normal intelligence; a worsening of his symptoms occurred at the beginning of secondary school. He was admitted in order to be studied and was diagnosed with a high-functioning autism. The early stimulation and the individualized psychological and pedagogical treatment, structured and adapted to the environment, were indispensable for a better evolution of the patient.
