Promoting hospitalized children's well-being through an interdisciplinary methodology

ABSTRACT
Introduction: hospitalized children experience a sudden change: their home, school, neighborhood, siblings and friends disappear, as well as, the activities they used to do, and that is when boredom appears due to the poor stimulation and monotony of daily activities, conditions that do not favour their recovery.Objective: to develop a methodology from the health perspective in order to improve emotional well-being of hospitalized children at “José Luis Miranda” Pediatric University Hospital in Villa Clara.
Methods: this is a qualitative and participatory action research, which offers to the scientific community a working methodology for hospitalized children's well-being. Specialists and users' opinions were used as evaluation method.
Results: it is presented the structure of the design methodology, objectives and elements that identify the composition of the team of participants, training tools, and specialists and users' opinions on the design.
Conclusions: the design of a methodology for promoting hospitalized children's well-being was achieved; it was made up by five directions, nine programs, twenty-seven sub-programs and more than eighty actions. This methodology is relevant and appropriate to achieve the proposed goals; its implementation is feasible and can be effective to promote hospitalized children's well-being.
