ABSTRACT
Introduction: other components of body constitution in pregnant woman have been considered important determinants of the current and future health of the mother and the product of conception regardless of body mass index. Objectives: to determine the influence of phenotypes that express body adiposity and adipose tissue distribution in pregnant women in the occurrence of large births for their gestational age.
Methods: a prospective analytical study of all healthy pregnant women aged 20-29 years and their products was carried out at “Chiqui Gómez Lubián” policlinic of Santa Clara from October, 2012 to December, 2014. Primary anthropometric measures were made after secondary calculations for which descriptive bivariate methods were used, as well as, multivariate methods (conglomerates in two stages to classify pregnant women, and logistic regression to analyze the influence of variables on the occurrence of large births for their gestational age).
Results: there were structured three conglomerates with the same number of pregnant women and associated with the deviations of trophic condition at birth; groups were denominated phenotypes for their characteristics: normal adiposity, obesity and risk of body adiposity.
Conclusions: the determination of phenotypes during pregnancy can be a useful tool to prevent future metabolic complications early, to reorientate weight gains in this period and to predict large births for their gestational births.
