Periodontal state in pregnant of the East Maternity Home of Santiago de Cuba

ABSTRACT
Introduction: Pregnant have hormonal variations, which are among the main factors that can induce the periodontal disease.Objective: To characterize the periodontal health condition in pregnant patients and its relationship according to age, risk factors and oral hygiene.
Material and Methods: An observational descriptive and cross-sectional study in 40 pregnant more than 20 years of age out at the East Maternity Home of Santiago de Cuba Province from January to April 2017 was performed.
Results: Periodontitis affected 50% among the 30-39 years old group and mild gingivitis in 36% among 20-29 years old group. Dental caries (42.5%) and respiratory diseases (20%) were the most common local and general risk factors respectively.
Conclusions: There was a prevalenceof the periodontal disease in the pregnant patients, especially in those with dental caries, respiratory diseases and poor bucal hygiene.
