ABSTRACT
Diuretics are powerful therapeutic tools widely used for various purposes. In older adults, they are particularly useful because of the pathological profile of this age group. They are widely used for the treatment of arterial hypertension, are part of the cornerstone of treatment of heart failure, as well as complications of liver failure, even form part of the therapeutic palliative arsenal; however, older adults are particularly labile to all adverse effects and to pharmacological interactions, either because they present themselves more easily, because some changes of the aging make them more susceptible or because they do not present in a traditional way as in a young adult. The following is a review of the most commonly prescribed diuretics and some recommendations for their administration in the elderly from a geriatric point of view.REFERENCES
