ABSTRACT
Introduction: Labia Minora Hypertrophy of unknown incidence is most common during puberty and its
origins is multi-factorial. One of the most practiced interventions is the Edge resection technique.
Objective: To describe the outcomes of surgical treatment of patients treated by labia minora
hypertrophy at Hospital Pediátrico Docente Cerro by Urology´s Service.
Methods: Descriptive study from
21 patients treated with labiaplasty by edge resection technique. Were evaluated age, skin color, first
menstruation, clinical manifestation, labia minora length, laterality and surgical complications. Follow-up
time was a year.
Results: Median age of 13 years. Majority had white skin (66.7 %). One patient (4.8 %)
had familiar antecedents of LH. 52.4 % complain of abnormal protruding and 19 % of irritation and
discomfort. 17 (81 %) adolescents referred symptoms after first menstruation. Bilateral 76.2 % with
median length of labia minora of 5.7 cm. 14.3 % required surgery for clitoral hood. Is reported one (4.8 %)
complication.
Conclusions: We considered that could be a relationship between first menstruation and
first symptoms appeared. Outcomes of edge resection techniques were goods with a high degree of
satisfaction and with few complications.
