ABSTRACT
Introduction: bibliometric studies to scientific journals allow the exploration, detection and display of the relevant or significant information for large volumes of documents. Objective: to carry out a bibliometric study of the Medical Student Journal at Pinar del Rio Medical University from 2010 to 2016.
Method: an observational, descriptive, longitudinal and retrospective study of the scientific production published in the Medical Student Journal at Pinar del Rio Medical University was carried out from April to June 2017. The collection of the all articles published (111) in this journal was taken as a sample six-monthly during the years 2010-2016. The results were expressed in charts and statistical tables for the better understanding.
Results: original articles predominated with 54 (48.6%), especially in 2014, as well as the multi-authorship of 4 or more authors, with 61%. Within the bibliometric parameters that revealed a total of 111 articles and 353 authors, female sex authors prevailed with 60.1%, as well as descriptive studies (30.6%). The subjects most approached according to descriptors in the health sciences were adolescence and risk factors with a frequency of 7 respectively.
Conclusions: the article made it possible to study, from a sciencetometric perspective, the work performed by the medical students and tutors of the Medical Student Journal at Pinar del Rio Medical University during the period 2010-2016, which represents a real challenge for the new generations, as well as a recognition for the arduous work developed by the members of its editorial team at the service of science in Pinar del Rio.
