ABSTRACT
Introduction: Tumor stadification by Gleason grade is important for therapeutic decision in patients with prostate
cancer.
Objective: To compare Gleason grade between transrectal biopsy and Gleason grade radical
prostatectomy.
Methods: Observational retrospective transversal and comparative study in male patients of
Urology Department in “Hospital de Especialidades del Centro Médico Nacional La Raza” from September 2002
to January 2006 evaluating prostatic specific antigen, prostate volume, transrectal biopsy and radical
prostatectomy Gleason´s grade, extraprostatic extension with Sperman’s correlation and χ
2.
Results: Transrectal
biopsy: Gleason’s 5: 1 patient, Gleason’s 6: 28, Gleason’s 7 (3 + 4): 2, Gleason’s 7 (4+3): 8 and Gleason’s 8: 1.
Radical prostatectomy: Gleason’s 6: 14, G7 (3+4): 6, G7 (4+3): 11, G8: 5, G9 (4+5): 2, G9 (5+4): 1 and G10: 1.
The results were independent with the statistical analysis.
Conclusions: There were no statistical relationship
between the studied values because the sub or supradiagnostic of the comparative study. There were an
independent correlation.
