ABSTRACT
Purpose: To evaluate if the chicken as experimental model is useful to acquire and improve surgical laparoscopic
skills.
Subjects and methods: Prospective, longitudinal, descriptive, observational and open ended. Urology
residents attend to teaching session on laparoscopic training. In chickens esophagus; stomach and heart were
leave in place the rest of the viscera were removed. The model was placed in the training box and was dissected
at the level of the stomach and esophagus-gastric junction, the anastomosis was realized with simple separated
suturing of vicryl 000. Descriptive statistics: U Mann Whitney and Wilcoxon tests.
Results: Twelve urology
residents attend to laparoscopic training with a media of invested time of hours per day was 180 (60-30) minutes,
176 chickens was operated. The mean time of the complete practice was 79.11 (54.5-106) minutes in the
beginning and 23.95 (15.4-44.7) minutes (p = 0.000) at the end of the study. The media of chickens to realize an
anastomosis of quality was 4 (2-7) chickens.
Conclusions: Vesicouretral anastomosis may be more easily after
the practice or this model, capable of being reproduced in any means and with a minimum of investment of
money and reducing the learning curve.
