ABSTRACT
Introduction: The establishment of the Centralized Units of Intravenous Mixtures is the current response more in line with the need to rationalize this therapy in the health units. Objective: To evaluate the effectiveness of the Centralized Unit of Intravenous Mixtures in Villa Clara province of through compliance with quality indicators. Method: A descriptive, prospective longitudinal study was carried out in seven years, the universe of study being the totality of patients who required intravenous nutrition, with the review of patient records, and quality indicators: clinical, technical and economic, as well as the satisfaction of the users. Results: the importance of the nutritional assistance was verified when identifying the incompatibilities in the indications of the mixtures to be made and the non-manifestation of adverse reactions in the patients. No microbiological growth was found in the analyzes carried out by the provincial laboratory, nor problems in visual control. The saving was remarkable taking into account the probable expenses if this unit does not exist. Of the total number of doctors and family members surveyed, all had satisfactory criteria regarding work in this place, demonstrating its importance and the benefit of opening this center for the Villa Clara Province. Conclusions: The effectiveness of the Centralized Unit of Intravenous Mixtures of Villa Clara was demonstrated by compliance with the quality indicators.
