ABSTRACT
Introduction: toxoplasmosis is known as the parasitosis of the twentieth century, it is the zoonosis with the widest distribution in the world, it is estimated that more than a third of the world population is infected. Objective: to determine the seroprevalence of anti-Toxoplasma gondii IgG antibodies in the province of Santiago de Cuba. Method: a descriptive observational study of patients with seroprevalence of anti-Toxoplasma gondii IgG antibodies was performed in the province of Santiago de Cuba, in the period from January 2012 to December 2014. The universe consisted of 585 patients referred by different consultations. Results: of 585 patients studied, 134 were positive for 22.9%, were diagnosed by latex agglutination methods and indirect immunofluorescence, chorioretinitis was the most frequent cause of consultation. Conclusions: the seroprevalence of toxoplasmosis in Santiago de Cuba province in the period studied is low, however, the number of positive cases and the analysis shows that there is underreporting in the information related to the control of the disease.
