Characterization of self-employed workers exposed to chemical substances in Arroyo Naranjo municipality of Havana, Cuba. 2017

ABSTRACT
Introduction: In Cuba, in the decade of the 90's of the past century, a modality of work denominated self-employed workers is created (WSE), which propitiates that many people open small work locals to carry out different functions. In spite of the benefits, there isn't a surveillance of its work conditions exposed to diverse risk factors. Objective: To characterize the self-employed workers of the Arroyo Naranjo municipality of Havana, Cuba, exposed to chemical substances. Material and method: It was carried out a descriptive study of traversal court from the months of January to November 2017 whose universe was 147 workers that were in the official listing of the National Office of Tributary Administration (ONAT) of the Arroyo Naranjo municipality of Havana, for the brickwork activities, carpentry, reparative of battery, welders and hairdressers. Results: In the evaluated period 147 WSE have visited what represent 11.7% of a total of 1,220. Of those visited 44.2% they have been interviewed, corresponding with biggest number to the carpenters, followed by the bricklayers and the hairdressers. The group of ages where are placed the biggest percent is located it is among 41 to 50 years with 39.1%, followed by those bigger than 61 with 23, 4%. The 35.4% has finished the university pre. The 78.1% has less than 10 years like self-employed worker. The 58, 1% of them work more than 8 hours. The validated instrument has been effective in the compilation of the workers' data for self-employed obtaining the biggest quantity in data possible.
