ABSTRACT
The Status Epilepticus refers to the presence of a single relentless
attack lasting more than 5 to 10 minutes or frequent clinical seizures
without interictal return to baseline clinical status. The etiology
include poor adherence to treatment, drug or alcohol withdrawal,
acute brain injury or infection, and metabolic disorders. The prognosis
depends on the etiology. In the diagnosis of status epilepticus,
neurological examination and electroencephalogram, as well as
initial evaluation and treatment of a patient in status epilepticus
should run concurrently being essential. There are various
approaches described for the treatment of status epilepticus. We
recommend the approach described and summarized in the accompanying
protocol (Grade 2C). Physicians should use medication
regimens with them and care team are familiar with in order to
prevent complications of therapy occur.
