Polymorphisms of the FcεRI receptor and its relationship with allergic diseases

ABSTRACT
The high affinity IgE receptor (FcεRI) is responsible for the activation of mast cells and basophils involved in the allergic response; it is composed of three polypeptidic chains: Alpha, beta and gamma. Multiple polymorphisms have been described in the different receptor chains which are related to the increase in the frequency or severity of allergic diseases. The objective of this review is to disclose the most frequent polymorphisms of this receptor. The polymorphisms that have been reported most frequently in relation to allergic diseases and clinical effects, such as IgE alterations, are those related to the receptor´s beta chain. The identification of new signaling molecules, when the receptor FcεRI is activated, has increased the number of possible molecular targets, which may serve to control atopic reactions.
