Ambulatory administration of Heberprot-p® to patients with diabetic foot in the polyclinics of Amancio municipality

ABSTRACT
Introduction: The diabetic foot ulcer is the most common vascular complication of diabetes mellitus and is associated to the rise of economic costs for the health service, for the patient and the family. It is the direct cause of non-trauma amputation and considered a health problem of high economic effect and great psychosocial impact.Objective: To describe the results of the ambulatory administration of Heberprot-P® to patients with diabetic foot in the polyclinics of Amancio Rodriguez municipality.
Methods: A descriptive, cross-sectional study of 43 patients seen at "Luis Aldana Palomino" polyclinic located in Amancio Rodríguez municipality, Las Tunas province. These patients were diagnosed with diabetic foot ulcer and treated at the outpatient service with Heberprot-P®. The study period ranged from January to December, 2015.
Results: The patients presented with I and II grade ulcers according to Wagner classification when they were seen at the outpatient service; no major amputations were performed and 90.7% of cases reached total closure of their ulcers.
Conclusions: The ambulatory administration of Heberprot-P® in the primary health care showed satisfactory results since the patients could go back to their regular social and working life in a short period of time, with no physical restrictions.
