Behavior of causes of death in hypertensive deceased

ABSTRACT
Introduction: Organs whose structure and function are altered as a result of untreated or uncontrolled arterial hypertension are called target organs and include the central nervous system, peripheral arteries, heart and kidneys, mainly, although the lungs and lungs may also be affected. the liver.Objetives: To describe the behavior of the causes of death in hypertensive deaths in the University Hospital "Vladimir Ilich Lenin", in the period from January 2016 to December 2017.
Methods: An observational, descriptive study was made of a series of cases in which the universe consisted of 1,072 deceased adults with a diagnosis of arterial hypertension who underwent necropsy by the pathology department of the University Hospital "Vladimir Ilich Lenin.” The sample consisted of 786 patients selected through a non-probabilistic or intentional sampling.
Results: The predominant sex was male while the age group that predominated was 81-90; the main target organ injured was the heart, while the brain was the least affected.
Conclusions: The main cause of death was Atherosclerosis, while the less frequent was liver cirrhosis; Generalized Sepsis, while shock was the direct cause of less frequent death; the greater number of decedents had a clinical diagnosis partially corresponding with the pathological one, while the smaller amount had a clinical diagnosis not corresponding to the pathological one.
