ABSTRACT
Amytrophic lateral sclerosis is a neurodegenerative disease of unknown etiology, progressive course and unfavorable prognosis, for which there is no healing treatment. It results very indispensable the care people who is surprised by this disease, so the profesional knowledge about palliative care in indispensable in these sick patients. A librarry research was performed with the objective to discover the distictive characteristics of the palliative pertinent approach to apply in these patients. Bibliographic researces were carried out by PUBMED, COCHRANE, LILACS and CLINICALKEY of the last 5 years, with the seaching terms “palliativecare” and “palliativecare and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. It could be posible to conclude that the characteristics that distinguish the palliative approach for persons who suffer from Amytrophic lateral sclerosis are: Multidisciplinary, multiprofessional, holistic and personalized care to the patients and their families, directed to preseve the life quality, control the symptoms, relieve pain and suffereng, as well as to give the adequate respect to the dignity of the human beings.
