Behavior of cardiovascular diseases in patients assisted in an intensive area of a municipality

ABSTRACT
Introduction: the heart is the victim of numerous diseases with a high rate of incidence in the world population, constituting cardiovascular diseases one of the main causes of death and disability worldwide.Objective: to characterize morbidity and mortality due to cardiovascular diseases in the municipal intensive area of Nueva Paz.
Method: descriptive, prospective study between January 1, 2010 and December 31, 2014 in the 367 patients treated in the emergency service of the "Felipe Poey Aloy" University Polyclinic in Nueva Paz.
Results: 58,3 % of the patients were men, 45 % black and 54,2 % were from 40 to 59 years old. Cardiac arrhythmias prevailed in 36,5 % and 67,3 % of patients with myocardial infarction received thrombolysis . The 72,1 % of the patients improved and were discharged from this service.
Conclusions: cardiac arrhythmias constituted the main cause of admission in the Emergency service. Almost the three quart parts of the patients with acute myocardial infarction had thrombolytic treatment and a larger quantity had a satisfactory evolution with the discharge from this service.
