ABSTRACT
Mastocytosis comprises a heterogeneous group of diseases characterized by abnormal accumulation of mastocytes in one or several organs. There are two types: systemic and cutaneous. Within cutaneous the most frequent variety corresponds to urticaria pigmentosa, that typically occurs in children and is characterized by a maculopapular dermatosis, in brown tones, disseminated, that respect face, palms and soles. The diagnosis is clinical, corroborating the presence of mastocyte infiltrate in the histopathological study. The treatment is directed to the control of the symptoms since a curative treatment is not yet available.
