ABSTRACT

Background: Professional upgrading to obtain the scientific degree of doctor of sciences is a priority of the Cuban society and health institutions. Objective: To propose the creation of a professional upgrading cathedra to obtain the scientific degree of doctor of science at the Sancti Spíritus University of Medical Sciences. Methodology: Methods of the theoretical level were used: analytic-synthetic and inductive-deductive and empirical level: the analysis of documents. Results: The cathedra was structured, its functions were defined, the faculty was proposed and the professionals to be trained. Conclusions: A viable option was offered to promote the professional upgrading of the scientific degree of doctor of sciences.
