Posterior capsule opacification after phacoemulsification. Evaluation of different types of intraocular lenses.

ABSTRACT
Purpose: To evaluate the incidence of posterior capsule opacification in patients undergoing phacoemulsification cataract surgery at the anterior segment department of our hospital.Method: A retrospective study was made which included 485 eyes of 352 patients with an average age of 68.01 years and 13.46 month follow-up that underwent phacoemulsification surgery and implantation of different types of intraocular lens observing the area, type and density of opacification.
Results: Posterior capsule opacification was observed in 30.92%, Elschnig´s pearls type in 80% and the area most affected was the periphery in 87%.
Conclusion: Posterior capsule opacification was observed in 30.92% with an average follow-up of 13.46 months.
