ABSTRACT
Skin cancer is the most prevalent in Brazil. According to the INCA - National Cancer Institute - estimates of non-melanoma skin cancer reached 175,760 new cases in 2016 for both sexes. The aim of this study was to evaluate and characterize the pattern of skin cancer and the incidence in a population attended at a dermatology clinic in the south of the city of São Paulo. For that, a retrospective analysis of the patients who presented skin cancer in the years 2015 and 2016 was carried out in the outpatient Department of Dermatology of the University of Medicine in this same region. Sixty - one patients with skin cancer were identified, most of them being affected by CBC - Basal Cell Carcinoma. It consisted mainly of female, Caucasian, elderly, with a malignant lesion or two concomitants, coming from areas exposed to the sun, with predominance in the face region. Some cases of melanoma were found. The most common histological subtype was ulcerated. It is believed that there is an underreporting of cases in Brazil. The importance of skin cancer prevention with the regular monitoring of patients in health services is emphasized, being a preventable disease and of high prevalence in the world.
