ABSTRACT
Background: Chronic kidney disease is a condition characterized by deterioration of the glomerular filtration rate coupled with inherent gastrointestinal, hematological, cardiovascular and mineral bone symptoms that condition a decrease in the quality of life of a patient. According to statistics from the United States, in 2012, Mexico, represented by the state of Jalisco, had the first place on incidence per million inhabitants and the sixth place on prevalence, below countries like Taiwan, Japan and the United States. Objective: To compare the dry weight of patients with chronic renal failure in the treatment of function by peritoneal dialysis using icodextrin with those using standard glucose solutions. Material and methods: Retrospective and observational study performed in the clinical archive service, the nephrology ward and the external dialysis consultation of the Central Military Hospital from April to September 2015. The parameters to be evaluated were dry weight, hemoglobin and albumin. The analysis was carried out using the statistical paired t method. Results: In relation to dry weight, a statistically significant difference was obtained, with a value of p ‹ 0.05, showing that icodextrin keeps patients closer to dry weight than standard glucose solutions, translated on an average of 3.3 versus 4.2 L, icodextrin versus conventional, respectively. Conclusions: The use of icodextrin in patients with peritoneal dialysis helps to preserve the peritoneal cavity and improve the metabolic, volumetric and blood pressure control without affecting residual diuresis.REFERENCES
