ABSTRACT
Introduction: Competence formation in postgraduate education, from a worldwide connotation, is related to the quality of the health care professional skills. It is very important to define the specific professional competences the general comprehensive doctors need to develop in their formation because of these doctors´ relation to the quality of their professional performance, and the medical care given to the population.Objective: To propose specific professional competences in the formation of specialists in General Comprehensive Medicine, which contribute to the improvement of their professional performance.
Results: The work of several authors on this topic was systematized through a historical-logical study, and a document analysis; a proposal of specific professional competences to develop in the formation of specialists in General Comprehensive Medicine was made. These competences were identified as communicative, clinical, epidemiological, health education, teaching, investigative, and managerial, which can make possible an improvement in the human and professional performance of these specialists.
Conclusions: The results of this research give a possible solution to the problems that arise within the formation process of some specialties, particularly, the General Comprehensive Medicine, and refers to its impact on the professional performance of the individuals that study it, when going in depth into the formation process of specific professional competences of Cuban doctors.
