ABSTRACT
Introduction: nowadays the application of information technologies in society is essential, hence the need for automated systems that allow the management of a large volume of data. Cuban Ministry of Public Health has taken important steps in computerization with the modern construction of telecommunication infrastructures assumed by manual systems with their possible human and time bias. Objective: to design the prototype of a computer application that shows the map of beds in real time to access its status, the adjustment of the data of admitted patients and their follow-up at Dr. León Cuervo Rubio Teaching Surgical Clinical Hospital in Pinar del Río.
Method: this is a Technological Innovation Research on the hospital movement system at the chosen hospital in Pinar del Río, using the Extreme Programming methodology, modeling the application with the Unified Modeling Language, adjusting the development of the workflows according to the UML specifications for web engineering.
Results: an application comprising the module of system configuration and the Bed Map was obtained, enabling the organization and centralization of the corresponding information in a database organized and controlled by the service providers themselves.
Conclusions: the research constitutes the basis for the computerization of the management of beds and patients in hospital wards. The Map of beds will ease the work of the personnel, guaranteeing the management of the correct information in real time, faster and efficiently.
