The purpose of this article is to determine the importance of defending the dignity of people in society in general and in particular in the health field. The work is a necessary historical review of the concept of human dignity to reach the final conclusion of the absolute relevance of this concept. Conclusions: Health professionals should be the main defenders of the dignity of our patients. The concept of human dignity must be understood as a central value in all fields of human action, but more so in the field of health.
