ABSTRACT
A descriptive, cross-sectional and retrospective study of 285 patients with diagnosis of hypertension for more than 5 years, belonging to the Family Doctor Office No. 42 in the health area of "José Martí Pérez" Teaching Polyclinic was carried out in Santiago de Cuba, during the trienium 2015-2017, aimed at characterizing them according to clinical, epidemiological and therapeutic aspects of interest. The results of the series revealed a prevalence of the female sex (56.8 %) and the 45 to 54 age group (31.6 %). The sedentary life style and nicotine addiction prevailed as risk factors, with respective percentage values of 45.3 and 44.6, and ischemic heart disease was the non communicable chronic disease mainly associated with hypertension, with 97.5 %. Most of the patients presented a longer clinical course at 10 years and adhered to antihypertensive treatment.
