ABSTRACT
Persistent ductus arteriosus is considered the most common congenital heart disease in neonates with weight lower than 1 500 grams. It is inversely related to gestational age and birth weight. The main symptoms are: tachycardia, wide pulse pressure, hyper dynamic precordium, bounding pulses, and systolic murmur. Shunt can be hemodynamically significant, being necessary its closure with cyclooxygenase's inhibitors such as indomethacin or ibuprofen and surgical closure in some cases. We report a feminine newborn case. She was born with 29 weeks of the gestational age and a weight of 1 320 grams, apgar test 9/9. After 6 days of born she shows a systolic murmur, bounding pulses and it was diagnosed a persistent ductus arteriosus, starting immediately treatment with ibuprofen for intravenous line. She receives three cycles of treatment but at the thirty-five days she also received surgical closure with a good evolution.
