ABSTRACT
Introduction: The family plays a leading role in the process of turning its younger members into people capable of participating positively in the life of society; therefore, the way in which it carries out its educational function is so important. Objective: To analyze the educational function of the family and its guiding role in the formation of the new generations, as a primary group that mediates between the individual and the society.
Methods: A search was made in the digital literature of original research articles published in SciELO-Cuba and SciELO-Regional during the years 2013 to 2016, with a combination of Descriptors in Health Sciences (DeCS) and the key words: family, educational function, training, development, health, well-being, society. The search for the Spanish language was restricted. The literature was tracked, organized, systematized and analyzed, in order to establish the regularities of the information on the subject of study.
Conclusions: The family and its leading role in the model formation of the people desired to be created for the society is a topic that requires systematic and deep study, being an imperative objective to improve the theoretical and methodological bases that guide its action. Providing effective spaces and tools to motivate and train families to display their leading role in the educational effort to cement generations of quality is now a challenge. Assuming it can favor the health, well-being and progress of many of our peers and the society.
