ABSTRACT
Introduction: Among the activities carried out by the National School of Public Health, a group of academic courses offered to foreign students are distinguished by their importance. Multiple visits are planned, both to polyclinics and other health facilities, as an essential or complementary component of these courses. Objective: To design a training guide with the fundamental elements to be taken into account particularly by the executives, and generally by the professionals of the services in the different health facilities, for the reception and attention of groups of students for the different academic courses of the National School of Public Health.
Methods: A documentary review of the programs of different types of courses for foreign students developed at the National School of Public Health was conducted, mainly short courses, internships, diploma courses, among others, which include visits to health facilities. We interviewed a group of teachers with the Center and who are associated to this type of courses, as well as directives and professionals of the faculties visited, in order to know the fundamental elements that are required to know about the health facilities visited, as well as their services.
Results: Several stages to be observed during the development of the visits were identified, and for which a brief explanation has been included.
Conclusions: This study allows health facilities and the National School of Public Health to have a document that, while not normative, can be a reference or consultation for the training of both directives and workers, in general, to receive groups of students for academic courses in the National School of Public Health, as part of the academic programs of these courses, although the possibility is that this may be timely useful for the preparation prior to receiving other types of visits in these and other facilities.
